Arizona
For all of Arizona's struggles on the road, it certainly knows how to return home and take it out on seemingly anyone. Oregon knows all about that having been trounced three times last season in home, away and neutral venues by the Wildcats, and any sort of retribution Thursday night in Tucson requires overcoming the nation's longest home winning streak. Arizona won last season's meetings by an average of 26.6 points, the most lopsided a 90-56 final in Tucson exactly a year ago. Continue to Article

No. 12 Arizona could still end up winning the Pac-12 Conference almost two months from now, but it has become obvious more than three weeks into conference play that a handful of other teams could easily dethrone the Wildcats. One of those teams is Cal and the Bears sent Arizona home with its third Pac-12 loss in seven games on Saturday night thanks to a huge performance from junior guard Jordan Mathews, who came off the bench to score 28 points in a 74-73 Cal victory that ended with students pouring out of the stands to celebrate. THEY STORM THE COURT IN BERKELEY! BEARS WIN, BEARS WIN!!! #Pac12Hoops https://t.co/Fl5EWneq43 — Pac-12 Networks (@Pac12Networks) January 24, 2016 [ Why Oklahoma should remain No. 1 in spite of Monday's loss ] Arizona was trying to earn the 300th victory in Sean Miller's coaching career, but it will have to wait. Gabe York's runner in the final seconds just missed the mark and the Wildcats fell to 4-3 in the Pac-12 tied with the Bears. Mathews seemed to have an answer for every surge of momentum Arizona offered, and when it wasn't Mathews playing the stopper role, it was often freshman Jaylen Brown who had 15 points, seven assists and two big blocked shots. Cal lost starting point guard and its best playmaker Tyrone Wallace to a broken bone in his right hand in practice and responded by sweeping Arizona State and Arizona in close, hard-fought games this week. Cal coach Cuonzo Martin might have been wondering what he would get from his team without its leading playmaker and now he has to be pleased with the answer. The Bears still have to prove they can go on the road and win games without Wallace, but the rest of the team and the rest of the conference now know the Bears aren't going anywhere. Martin's team was picked to finish second behind the Wildcats. There is no reason to think they can't do even better. [ Refs miss multiple violations before Ball State buzzer beater ]  Ryan Anderson and Gabe York have been at the center of Arizona's efforts to remain in contention near the top of the standings. They combined for 29 points and 15 rebounds. But the Wildcats have struggled this season to match the level of excellence it had achieved on defense in recent years and getting stops was a problem again Saturday. Arizona forced only seven turnovers from a team with a starting point guard making only his second start in the role. Arizona figures to get better as the season moves along and this group plays together more. It's also worth noting that the Wildats already have five conference road games under thier belts and will be playing at home more often than not, and they rarely lose at home. - - - - - - - [ Kyle Ringo is the assistant editor of The Dagger on Yahoo Sports. Arizona
Gabe York dribbled off his foot, then drove to the basket and missed a contested shot in the waning seconds, and California held on behind Jordan Mathews to beat No. 12 Arizona 74-73 on Saturday night. Mathews converted an off-balance layin under pressure with 1:13 to play and finished with a season-best 28 points. York's 3-pointer with 54.6 seconds left pulled Arizona within two, then Kadeem Allen's layup the next time down tied it at 73 with 39.3 seconds to play. Continue to Article

Arizona
Back to playing the kind of defense it's used to, Arizona hopes it can keep relying on Ryan Anderson and Gabe York to fill a void offensively. California has lost its top offensive threat - just like the Wildcats - but will try to remain unbeaten at home without Tyrone Wallace. Twelfth-ranked Arizona will try give Sean Miller his 300th career victory by extending its streak to four Saturday night at Haas Pavilion. Continue to Article
