Villanova is in a stretch where it plays five of seven games on the road and was scheduled to play this one Saturday until Winter Storm Jonas hit the East Coast. Inconsistent outside shooting hasn't stopped Villanova from maintaining its Big East dominance and continuing to rise in the national polls. The No. 4 Wildcats will likely have to claw out another victory Wednesday night at Seton Hall in a pairing of two of the conference's top defensive teams. The Wildcats overcame a 3 of 18 performance from beyond the arc and one field goal over the final 8 1/2 minutes in Saturday's 55-50 victory at Georgetown, their eighth consecutive win and 21st straight against Big East foes including last year's conference tournament. Kris Dunn hit a fadeaway jumper at the buzzer and scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half as No. 12 Providence overcame its worst shooting of the season to defeat Creighton 50-48 on Tuesday night. The Friars (15-2, 3-1 Big East) took their first lead with under 5 minutes to play after trailing by as many as 12 points in the first half. Xavier bounced back from an embarrassing rout to open Big East play by registering a lopsided victory its last time out. The status of one of the 10th-ranked Musketeers' best players remains uncertain, however, as they visit St. John's Carnesecca Arena for the first time in nearly 35 years Wednesday night. Xavier's 12-0 start was shattered by Thursday's 95-64 blowout loss at then-No. 16 Villanova, a game which also saw the Musketeers (13-1, 1-1) lose highly touted freshman point guard Edmond Sumner on an ugly collision that resulted in him being taken off on a stretcher.
