TORONTO – It might be oversimplifying it to say the Bruins go as goaltender Tuukka Rask goes, but at the same time it's difficult to argue the point. The Bruins ended a four-game losing streak with a 4-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Center, and not-so-coincidentally, Rask had his best game of the month in stopping 29 shots. Marchand's "victory lap" with Hall of Fame award rubs it in It was as much about sound defense played in front of Rask after the B's had allowed 15 goals in the previous four games, but just as important, the Bruins netminder didn't let any easy ones by him as he'd done in recent losses to the Canadiens and the Panthers. The slate was short and sweet in the National Hockey League on Friday night, and the result of each game was a bit surprising. It was also a low-scoring night on the NHL, as four of the five games went 'under', if you're into that type thing. Goaltenders ruled the night across most of the NHL, as only the Montreal-Washington game and Boston-Toronto games saw more than five total goals. Continue to Article

Tomas Tatar had a goal with three assists, and Phillip Danault recorded one goal and two helpers as the visiting Montreal Canadiens used a four-goal second period to beat the Washington Capitals 5-2 Friday. The Canadiens won their third straight while ending the Capitals' 13-game point streak. Though they are dealing with injuries and sudden inconsistencies themselves, the Boston Bruins, and the real nightmarish qualities they have about them, would be included among the last things the Toronto Maple Leafs would want to encounter one day after scrapping practice to address recent failures in a team meeting, and also losing another key contributor to an indefinite absence to injury. There's no doubt that Auston Matthews can score goals in many different ways, but this tally against the Bruins was just special. In the second period of Friday night's heated divisional matchup in Toronto, Matthews was able to score the tying goal with a jaw-dropping deflection. With his arms fully extended and a Bruins defender pressuring him from behind, the Leafs centre was still able to get his stick to the puck in mid air and put it behind Boston netminder Tuukka Rask.
