Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was hoping to play through the pain of back and shoulder injuries in Detroit's Week 10 game against the Chicago Bears, but the game time decision has been made. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Stafford has fractured bones in his back and will not play. Lions GM Bob Quinn spoke to the media and while he gave a time frame for when the back injury occurred, he didn't reveal when the Lions knew that Stafford had fractured bones in his back. The University of Illinois head coach led the squad to a wild comeback win over the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday. Of course, anytime Smith leads a squad to a huge comeback win, what first comes to mind is the Bears' now-infamous comeback win in the desert in 2006. At one point during Saturday's game, the Illini were down 28-3 and shortly thereafter, they were down 31-10 following a 46-yard Brandon Peters touchdown pass to and a Michigan State field goal that stretched their lead to 21 points. Quandre Diggs may not have been as shocked at the trade deadline as he initially led on. The safety told reporters he was “blindsided” when he woke up from a nap to find the Detroit Lions traded him to the Seattle Seahawks last month.
