New Orleans Pelicans point guard Lonzo Ball will not play against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday night after sustaining a right adductor strain, the team announced. Ball initially was injured in a Nov. 2 game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, but said he played through the pain when the Pelicans faced the Brooklyn Nets on Monday. Ball, 22, totaled 15 points with two rebounds and three assists in that 135-125 setback to the Nets, then played Friday night in a 122-104 home loss to the Toronto Raptors. Continue to Article

In the dog days of summer, we are privvy to snapshots of celebrities snacking on hotdogs and beer in the stands at baseball games and the World series, and every fall we're treated to endless courtside shots of our favorite stars as they down popcorn and vodka sodas while watching the—let's be honest—much more exciting sport of basketball. Photos of Rihanna grinning ecstatically on the court at a Los Angeles Lakers game last month have been widely circulated, but she's not the only big name to hit up a basketball game this NBA season. Kyle Lowry suffered a fractured thumb and Serge Ibaka sustained an ankle injury in the Toronto Raptors' 122-104 road win over the New Orleans Pelicans. Friday's victory, secured after a superb 44-point showing from in-form Pascal Siakam that matched his career high, came at a cost for the defending NBA champions, who moved to 6-2 for the season. X-rays confirmed Lowry, 33, suffered a small fracture in his left thumb when he was attempting to steal the ball from Pelicans center Derrick Favors in the first quarter. Continue to Article

LeBron James racked up another landmark on Friday and cited his 'extra motivation' to recapture his best form after the injury that blighted him last season. James scored 25 points as the Los Angeles Lakers recorded a seventh win on the bounce, defeating the Miami Heat 95-80. In doing so, he became only the third player in NBA history to tally 1000 regular-season games in which he has scored 20 points or more, joining Karl Malone and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Bojan Bogdanovic drained the game-winning 3-pointer as time expired Friday to lift the Utah Jazz, who withstood a series of furious second-half comebacks by the Milwaukee Bucks, to a 103-100 victory in Salt Lake City. The Bucks, who trailed by as many as 22 in the first half and entered the locker room down 20, had a four-game winning streak snapped. Bogdanovic's winner gave him a game-high 33 points and capped a wild final 90 seconds in which the Jazz squandered an eight-point lead, the bulk of which was blown as Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo sat on the bench after fouling out.
