Jesus Aguilar ended a 13-pitch at-bat with a walk-off solo homer in the ninth inning as the Milwaukee Brewers rallied to defeat the visiting Miami Marlins 6-5 on Saturday night. Aguilar, who had entered the game as a defensive substitution in the top of the ninth, led off the frame and battled reliever Junichi Tazawa (0-1). It was Aguilar's first homer of the season, an opposite-field shot to right-center. Continue to Article

I have no issue with Mickey Callaway's decision to let Noah Syndergaard hit with the bases loaded in the fifth inning on Sunday, despite the game being tied. With the Mets up one run with two outs and runners on second and third, Callaway pitch hit Jay Bruce for his starting catcher, 24-year-old rookie Tomas Nido, who was making his first start of the season. The Brewers responded by intentionally walking Bruce, which loaded the bases for Noah Syndergaard, who quickly ended the inning and potential rally with a pop out.  Syndergaard returned to pitch the top of the sixth inning, but was removed one out later. The Brewers then knocked in two runs against reliever Robert Gsellman to take a temporary Continue to Article

Mets RHP Noah Syndergaard tossed 101 pitches and allowed one unearned run, while striking out 11 batters in 5 1/3 innings, during Sunday's 3-2 win against the Brewers at Citi Field. "I feel like this is finally a step in the right direction," Syndergaard told reporters after the game. Following his previous start, Syndergaard looked stressed and talked a lot about mechanics, which is almost always the default answer from a pitcher for reporters after a poor start. Mets manager Mickey Callaway didn't speak about his interactions with Syndergaard between starts, but my hunch is got him to slow things down, stop focusing on the body and, instead, focus on the Brewers, who has pitched well against during his career. Wilmer Flores homered with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning on Sunday afternoon to give the New York Mets a 3-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers at Citi Field. The Mets improved to 12-2 -- their best start ever -- and also have won five series to open a season for the first time. The Brewers are 8-8. Continue to Article

Things you should know about today's game... 1) Wilmer Flores launched a two-out walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Mets to their ninth win in 10 games. The Brewers bullpen had retired 11 of the previous 12 batters before the homer. 2) Noah Syndergaard was dominant, albeit inefficient, during his fourth start of the year. The right-hander took a no-hitter into the fifth inning and ultimately allowed an unearned run on two hits and a walk over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out 11, including eight consecutive batters from the second through the fourth, but he was removed after allowing a one-out single in the sixth on his 101st pitch. Amed Rosario committed a throwing error Continue to Article
