Chicago White Sox slugger Jose Abreu admitted he didn’t get much sleep on Friday night into Saturday morning. The Cuba native had his mind on his homeland as Hurricane Irma, then a Category 4 storm, passed over the island with intense winds and heavy rains. There’s no clear indication yet what the extent of the damage in Cuba might be, but as tired and concerned as Abreu was leading up to Saturday’s game, he played on. Tim Duncan is asking for help for the U.S. Virgin Islands, and says he will match donations up to the first $1 million. Duncan writes on The Players' Tribune that he is donating $250,000 immediately to storm relief efforts after there was extensive damage from Hurricane Irma, and noting that Hurricane Jose has developed behind. Carlos Rodon’s 2017 season will end the same way it began: with the White Sox potential ace of the future on the disabled list. While there are minor league arms currently staking their own claim to that title — Michael Kopech is the top-ranked pitching prospect in baseball — Rodon entered the picture before the rebuild was announced. Then came the 2017 season, with Rodon missing the first three months of the campaign with left biceps bursitis and then going on the disabled list again Friday, shut down for the season after an MRI revealed left shoulder inflammation. “For the future of the team and my future, I think it’s the best thing, the best way to go about it,” Rodon said after Friday’s loss to the visiting San Francisco Giants.
