New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles Thread

Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles completed August with a 17-12 record that helped to put them back in the thick of the wild card race. Leading the way was Manny Machado on his way to being named the A.L. Player of the Month batting .341/.348/.690 and tying Gary Sanchez and Josh Donaldson with the most home runs with 12. Tied with the Angels, 1.5 games behind the Twins for the second wild card spot, the Orioles have a huge opportunity to tighten the race even further this week with a home series versus the Yankees. New York currently holds the top wild card spot, 3.5 games in front of the Birds. Dylan Bundy’s one-hit, complete game shutout against the Mariners Tuesday was as impressive as it gets. If the Orioles somehow Continue to Article

Baltimore Orioles
Chicago Cubs reliever Koji Uehara wore a Baltimore Ravens jersey while leaving for his team’s road trip. The rest of his teammates were pictured wearing various football jerseys. Most interestingly, Uehara wore a Joe Flacco jersey. The Cubs tweeted a picture of Uehara wearing the Flacco jersey with the caption “#ELITE”. It shouldn’t be too surprising that Uehara is a Ravens fan. The 42-year old pitcher started his Major League career with the Baltimore Orioles, after playing in the NPB in Japan for 10 seasons. He played two and a half seasons in Baltimore before being traded to the Texas Rangers for first baseman Chris Davis and pitcher Tommy Hunter. When Uehara was traded from Baltimore, he Continue to Article

The Yankees put outfielder Aaron Hicks on the 10-day disabled list Sunday because of a strained left oblique, less than a month after he missed six weeks because of an injury to his right ribcage. The move was made before New York's series finale against AL East-leading Boston. Hicks was hurt Saturday reaching up to make a running catch of Hanley Ramirez's drive on the center-field warning track and removed from the game. Continue to Article

New York Yankees
The Yankees placed outfielder Aaron Hicks on the 10-day disabled list on Sunday after he strained his left oblique in Saturday's win over the Boston Red Sox. Hicks suffered the injury when he chased down a ball hit by Hanley Ramirez deep to center field in the top of the sixth inning. When the top of the seventh came around, OF Jacoby Ellsbury took his place in center field.  The 27-year-old Hicks, who suffered a right oblique strain in late June that forced him to miss 39 games, was hitting .268 with 13 homers and 48 RBI entering this season.  Chris Carelli, SNY.TV Facebook | Twitter | About Me | Archives Hicks just got back from a long absence due to a strain of the right oblique. His injury Continue to Article

Baltimore Orioles
It’s September 1, which means it’s time for baseball’s active rosters to expand. The Orioles took advantage of the space on the roster by adding five players: Catching prospect Chance Sisco, outfielder Joey Rickard, last year’s Oriole Pedro Alvarez, and relievers Jimmy Yacabonis and Richard Rodriguez. Sisco and Rodriguez were not on the 40-man roster already, which means that players needed to be sent to the great DFA in the sky in order to make room. Time ran out for both Tyler Wilson and Logan Verrett. You can read some more about the decision to call up Sisco here. WNST’s Luke Jones noted that Sisco’s locker has been placed next to that of Caleb Joseph, so it sounds like one reason he got Continue to Article
