Montreal rested many of its key players with nothing at stake in its last game of the regular season. The short-handed Canadiens were still good enough to beat the lowly Detroit Red Wings. The New York Islanders are finishing the season as one of the NHL's hottest teams - and one with no place to go, except home. The Islanders were eliminated from playoff contention Saturday night despite running their winning streak to five games with a 4-2 decision over the New Jersey Devils behind two goals by Anders Lee and 37 saves by Jaroslav Halak. New Jersey Devils forward Patrik Elias announced his retirement last week, formally ending his time with a franchise for whom he is the all-time leading scorer in goals (408), assists (617) and points (1,025). Elias joined his team for warm-ups, skating out first by himself and then taking a last lap in front of home fans. Elias is unsure what the future holds now that his NHL career is over.
