Atlanta Hawks
By the slimmest of margins, the Detroit Pistons remain in playoff contention, but nothing about their play over the past four weeks suggests they have any sincere interest in extending their season. By blowing a 20-point lead at home in their 105-102 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night, the Pistons (35-43) essentially sealed their postseason fate. Detroit remains alive, but with the Chicago Bulls (39-40), Indiana Pacers (39-40) and Miami Heat (38-40) better positioned to claim the final two playoffs spots in the Eastern Conference, the Pistons might be better served focusing on getting past the Charlotte Hornets (36-43) for 10th place at this late stage of the race. The Cleveland Cavaliers went from a train wreck to the verge of clinching first place in the Eastern Conference. First, the Cavs pounded the Celtics 114-91 on Wednesday night to take a one-game lead over Boston. Then the Celtics lost to the Atlanta Hawks, 123-116, on Thursday, which bumped the Cavs' lead to 1 1/2 games. Continue to Article

Cleveland Cavaliers
Back from Boston, Kevin Love spent part of his day off talking to kids about fitness. With four straight wins, including a 114-91 walkover against the Celtics to wrestle back control atop the Eastern Conference, the Cavs may be gelling just in time for the NBA playoffs and a run at a second straight title. Less than a week after Cleveland lost three straight and five of seven, and just days following a heated exchange between LeBron James and Tristan Thompson that seemed to tear at the team's fabric and prompted questions about the champions' chemistry, all seems to be right with the closest thing the league has to a day-and-night time soap opera.
