Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price stares down a fan who had snagged a souvenir puck from a kid. There likely isn’t a single fan of the Montreal Canadiens who wouldn’t want a souvenir puck from Carey Price. After Montreal’s 4-1 win over Dallas, the Canadiens goaltender – having just been named first star of the game – began tossing souvenir pucks over the glass at a few lucky kids seated near the bench. The biggest ovation at the Bell Centre didn't come for Carey Price's stellar goaltending or for Brendan Gallagher's tiebreaking goal. It was for an assist by veteran defenseman Andrei Markov. By flipping a pass to Artturi Lehkonen for a one-timer that beat Kari Lehtonen in Montreal's 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night, Markov moved into a tie with Hall of Famer Guy Lapointe for second in career points by a Canadiens defenseman with 572, behind only Larry Robinson's 833. There probably hasn’t been enough made about the Dallas Stars’ unmitigated disaster of a season, going from 109 points and a division title to 73 points in 75 games thus far. Lambert took a hard look at what the Stars could and should do on the ice this offseason, but what about behind the bench? The Arizona Coyotes were eliminated from playoff contention on Monday, and the Florida Panthers likely are not far behind. Welcome to the world of the Panthers, a franchise that shockingly won the Atlantic Division last year and then made a bunch of changes, including firing their head coach about a month into the season.
