Carolina Hurricanes and Philadelphia Flyers Thread

Carolina Hurricanes
Barring a miraculous stretch run, the Philadelphia Flyers (32-30-8) and Carolina Hurricanes (30-27-12) play more for pride (and contracts) than for points in the Eastern Conference standings when they face off Sunday night in South Philadelphia. Both teams are seven points out of a playoff spot with 12 games remaining for the Flyers and 13 for the Hurricanes. Since winning 10 straight games back in December, the Flyers are 13-20-5 and closing in on becoming the first team in NHL history to win 10 straight games and miss the playoffs in the same season. The Metropolitan Division this year has four teams that are definite locks to reach the postseason, and a fifth that is in the hunt for the final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference. Unfortunately for the Philadelphia Flyers and New Jersey Devils, who meet Thursday night at the Prudential Center, neither of those Metropolitan Division teams is in the postseason mix. The inconsistent Flyers (32-29-8) are closer to the playoff pack then are the last-place Devils (25-31-12), but they still have three teams ahead of them for the second wild card in the East, with just 13 games remaining on their regular-season schedule. A furious comeback Tuesday night against a lottery-bound opponent allowed the New York Islanders to avoid disaster in their pursuit of the final Eastern Conference wild card spot. The Islanders will hope to remain on track in less heart-racing fashion Thursday night, when they host the Winnipeg Jets at Barclays Center. The Islanders came back from a two-goal deficit Tuesday night, when captain John Tavares scored 34 seconds into overtime of a 3-2 win over the host Carolina Hurricanes. Continue to Article
