The Toronto Maple Leafs recalled center Frederik Gauthier and placed center Mitch Marner on injured reserve retroactive to Feb. 15 with an upper-body injury on Tuesday. Gauthier, 21, has two goals and an assist in 18 games with the Maple Leafs this season. Andrew Ladd scored twice to lead the Islanders to a 4-2 victory over the Rangers on Thursday night. In the midst of losing their grip on first place, the Montreal Canadiens abruptly fired coach Michel Therrien on Tuesday and hired Claude Julien in hopes of getting their season back on track. Montreal general manager Marc Bergevin made the announcement two days into his team's bye week.
