Montreal Canadiens
For the first time since April 4, 2007, the Boston Bruins will play for someone other than Claude Julien when they host the San Jose Sharks Thursday night. The game, coming two days after Julien was fired, starts a stretch of three home games in four nights that could have a great effect on whether the Bruins can end their run of two straight seasons out of the playoffs. Enter assistant coach Bruce Cassidy, as the Bruins, currently on the outside of the playoff picture looking in, try to catch some of the lightning that can turn a team around after a coaching change -- the New York Islanders and St. Louis Blues being the latest examples of how that can work. Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid played his 100th NHL game on Sunday, and it was an eventful one. McDavid was kept off the scoresheet, but he led all forwards with 20:43 of ice time and drew three penalties in the Oilers' 1-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Leon Draisaitl's shootout goal. ''We haven't been in many one-goal games lately,'' said Holtby, who has won his last 10 starts. Washington improved to 12-0-2 in its last 14 games at Montreal. Continue to Article

In the absence of Jonathan Quick, fellow goaltender Peter Budaj has kept the Los Angeles Kings in the Western Conference playoff hunt. Although Quick is back practicing with the Kings, Budaj is expected to get the call when they visit the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday afternoon. Quick has been sidelined with a groin injury since mid-October and practiced for the second straight day on Friday under the supervision of former All-Star goaltender Bill Ranford. For some reason, long breaks in the season have disastrous effects on the Philadelphia Flyers. A week after getting humbled by the New York Islanders in their first game back from their bye week, the Flyers returned from the NHL All-Star break on Tuesday and got trounced by the Carolina Hurricanes. On Thursday night in Philadelphia, the Flyers will try to pick up the pieces against the Atlantic Division-leading Montreal Canadiens, who are coming off Tuesday night's 5-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres.
