One team will be coming off a big win and the other a long rest when the Washington Capitals visit the Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Centre on Saturday. The Capitals accomplished what no team could in the month of December when they stopped the Columbus Blue Jackets winning streak at 16 games Thursday. The intermission Mites on Ice game is one of the most entertaining parts of your evening while attending a hockey game. After beating the goalie short side during intermission of Thursday night’s Washington Capitals game at Verizon Center, he wanted to celebrate, and celebrate he did. (The Sports Xchange) - The Columbus Blue Jackets fell one game short of matching the National Hockey League record of 17 straight victories when they fell to the Washington Capitals 5-0 on Thursday. After 16 straight wins, the Blue Jackets were never in the game as Washington goalie Braden Holtby stopped 29 shots for his fourth shutout of the season. The Capitals got goals from five different players, scoring two in the first period, another pair in the second and one more in the third as they preserved the record of 17 in a row set in 1993 by the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Chicago Blackhawks officially activated forward Marian Hossa from injured reserve on Thursday, and he is available for Thursday night's game against the Buffalo Sabres. The 37-year-old Hossa, a five-time All-Star right winger, has not played since Dec. 20 because of an upper-body injury. - - The Carolina Hurricanes activated defenseman Justin Faulk from injured reserve and placed forward Elias Lindholm on injured reserve with an upper-body injury, the team announced.
