Bruins fans get their first up-close look at young Edmonton star Connor McDavid when the Edmonton Oilers visit TD Garden on Thursday night. The home faithful will also get to see old friend Milan Lucic in another uniform for the second time as he returns with the Oilers. McDavid, who turns 20 on Jan. 13, didn't play when the Oilers visited last season because of an injury, but he hits Boston locked in a league scoring battle with a pair of Pittsburgh Penguins. Boston Bruins hall of famer Milt Schmidt, who won his first Stanley Cup as a player in 1939 and fourth and final one as a general manager in 1972, died on Wednesday. The legendary Schmidt played centre on the Bruins' famed "Kraut Line" and won the Hart Trophy as the National Hockey League's MVP in 1951 and the Art Ross Trophy as the league scoring champion in 1940. Milt Schmidt, the hockey hall of famer who led Boston to two Stanley Cup championships as the center of the ''Kraut Line,'' served Canada in World War II and returned to the NHL to win its MVP award and two more titles as the Bruins general manager, died on Wednesday, the team said. Schmidt had been the oldest living NHL player. ''It would be a challenge to find anyone who took greater pride in being a Boston Bruin than Milt Schmidt did - be it as a player, an executive or an ambassador over the 80-plus years he served the franchise, the city of Boston and the National Hockey League,'' commissioner Gary Bettman said in a statement.
