There has not been a lot of positive news around the last-place Cincinnati Reds this year, but slugger Adam Duvall and pitcher Anthony DeSclafani are two of them. Duvall shares the National League lead in home runs at 22 with Chicago's Kris Bryant while DeSclafani makes his fifth start of the season Friday when he faces the first-place Washington Nationals and Tanner Roark in the second game of the series. San Diego Padres right-hander Colin Rea needs to make the most of his start against the visiting New York Yankees as the teams open a three-game interleague series Friday night. Rea (4-3, 5.05 ERA) has won once in his last eight starts, but that victory came in his most recent outing when beating the Reds after allowing four runs (three earned) in five innings. Bruce Bochy all but had his mind made up days ago: Madison Bumgarner would hit in an AL ballpark for interleague rather than using a designated hitter. All the San Francisco Giants manager had to do was ask the ace pitcher himself, knowing full well the big left-hander would want to swing the bat. Bumgarner doubled leading off the third inning of the finale of a four-game series against lefty Dillon Overton and the Oakland Athletics on Thursday night as San Francisco tried to avoid a sweep. Los Angeles Dodgers ace left-hander Clayton Kershaw was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday with a lower back injury. Kershaw received an epidural in his ailing back and will likely be idle for several days before being re-examined.
