A week ago, I wrote about the Philadelphia Phillies free-falling back to normal. At that point, on June 16, their June record was 4-10. Seven days later, their record is -- you guessed it -- 4-17. Those seven games haven't been against the most fearsome teams in baseball, either. They played one game against the Toronto Blue Jays, and then faced the Arizona Diamondbacks for four games, and are about to finish out a series with the Minnesota Twins. Buster Posey threw out John Jaso attempting to steal second base to end the game, Joe Panik's two-run double capped a three-run sixth inning, and the San Francisco Giants rallied from an early five-run deficit to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-6 on Wednesday night. Panik put the Giants ahead after Ramiro Pena made it a one-run game with an RBI double earlier in the inning. There was Erik Kratz, Pittsburgh's third-string catcher, pressed into pitching the ninth inning Tuesday against San Francisco. The fact that Kratz had a 1-2-3 inning against the Giants and even struck out Brandon Belt was a nice footnote, but it was also beside the point.
