San Francisco Giants
When you go to a ball game, you usually expect the players to make the impressive catches. But on Monday night, a Pittsburgh Pirates ball girl made a play that's worthy of any major league highlight reel. The game between the Pirates and the San Francisco Giants had just gotten started, with two outs gone in the top of the first inning. Jeff Locke was on the mound for the Pirates, and when he delivered the 2-2 pitch to Buster Posey, Posey whacked it foul and it skipped up and past the third base line. From there, the ball had a little adventure, hitting the tarp before taking a very weird hop off the ground. The ball soared way higher than anyone expected, but the ball girl was ready. She ran over to the tarp and tracked the ball as it hit the ground and bounced. As it started to fall she reached out with her bare hand and jumped, plucking the ball from the air with absolutely perfect timing.  [ Join a Yahoo Daily Fantasy Baseball contest now ] She didn't even take an extra second to appreciate her perfectly timed catch, or to pick up her hat, which had fallen off when she made the catch. She immediately ran several yards to give the ball to a very young fan sitting just behind the railing.  The catch she made was seriously impressive. The ball took a nasty hop, and she stayed with it. There are at least a few major leaguers who would probably have a problem doing that. The next time one of them does, they should stop by PNC Park and get a few pointers from her.  More MLB coverage from Yahoo Sports:   - - - - - - Liz Roscher is a writer for Big League Stew on Yahoo Sports. Pittsburgh Pirates
It's been said that a good craftsmen never blame his tools — but that good craftsmen probably hasn't had the same moment of disappointment that San Francisco Giants outfielder Angel Pagan had Monday night. [ Join a Yahoo Daily Fantasy Baseball contest now ] In the fifth inning of a 0-0 game , Pagan bolted to the left-field corner and leapt toward the wall, perfectly positioning himself to a rob a homer off the bat of Erik Kratz of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Pagan did everything right. Great jump. Great timing. Great reach. He had the ball in his glove and when he returned to the ground ... he didn't. Continue to Article
