The Blue Jackets, on the other hand, look lost without last year's stars in the fold, and they've scored just nine goals over the last four games. Plug in Reimer as one of the cheapest crease dwellers in this slate. GOALIE TO AVOID Corey Crawford, CHI vs. WPG ($32): It has been a bumpy start for Crawford, as he allowed nine goals over his first two games, losing both. Continue to Article

The Carolina Hurricanes haven't always played at their peak level in the first week-plus of the season. The results, though, have been spot-on -- 5-0-0 ahead of a meeting with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night in Raleigh, N.C. "I like the fact that we're winning not playing our best," coach Rod Brind'Amour said. That's a good (thing). Continue to Article

Erik Haula scored his fourth goal of the season to break a second-period tie, and the undefeated Carolina Hurricanes set some team history in a 5-2 victory against the New York Islanders on Friday night in Raleigh, N.C. The Hurricanes improved to 5-0-0 for the best five-game start in franchise history. Teuvo Teravainen, Brett Pesce, Dougie Hamilton and Andrei Svechnikov also scored for Carolina, which never trailed for the second game in a row after three comeback victories. CENTER Vincent Trocheck, FLA at BUF ($20): Trocheck dealt with injuries last year, but still managed 34 points in 55 games - including 13 with the extra man. He recorded two points in the opener this year. And while he hasn't notched a point since, he has fired 10 shots on goal through three games. Continue to Article

The first week of the NHL season, like a glass of room-temperature tap water, always goes down so smooth after you've been deprived. Let's take a shallow dive into some of the straight-up weirdness we've been exposed to over the past week without making even the slightest attempt to try and understand any of it. The rookies and newly-hired guns were flying as New Jersey came out and hammered the Jets early to take a 4-0 lead. Continue to Article

The Carolina Hurricanes, who are off to a 4-0 start for the first time since moving to Raleigh, N.C., in 1997, scored the game's first five goals and held on to defeat the host Florida Panthers 6-3 on Tuesday night in Sunrise, Fla. Carolina had prevailed in its first three games despite trailing in the third period, rallying to win after regulation each time. Goalie James Reimer, traded by the Panthers in June for minimal return (a sixth-round pick and a player no longer in the NHL), stopped 47 shots to defeat his former team. Continue to Article
