The Washington Nationals have set Thursday as the probable return for Max Scherzer. The three-time Cy Young Award winner has been on the 10-day injured list since July 29, and he has made only one start since July 6 because of upper back injuries. "Honestly, the toughest part about this whole thing is I feel like the carrot's right in front of my face," Scherzer said on MLB.com. Continue to Article

The Brewers scored five runs in the third as Yelich and Keston Hiura each drove in two runs for a 4-0 lead, and Moustakas' RBI single pushed the lead to 5-0. Soto trimmed it to 5-2 when he lofted a curve from Brewers starter Jordan Lyles to left for his 26th homer in the home half, and Eaton made it a new game when he slugged a shot to knot the game 5-5 in the fourth. Braun launched a long fly that bounced back from the right field wall for a double in the fifth, but video replay overturned the hit to a solo homer, and Grisham swatted a two-run shot for an 8-5 lead in the sixth. Eric Thames hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the 14th inning, and the Milwaukee Brewers finally held on for a wild 15-14 victory over the Washington Nationals on Saturday. Christian Yelich hit two home runs, tying for the major league lead with 41, and the Brewers equaled their franchise record with seven. Thames' blast off Javy Guerra (1-1) was the last of them in a 5-hour, 40-minute marathon between National League playoff contenders that featured 38 hits, 17 pitching changes, 11 home runs and blown saves by both teams' closers. Washington Nationals right-hander Max Scherzer, who has been on the 10-day injured list since July 29, is ready to return to the big-league mound again as soon as his team is willing to let him. "I haven't been on the mound for so long that to be able to come in today and have it not get worse, that was the biggest thing," Scherzer told reporters after throwing a two-inning simulated game on Tuesday. Scherzer played catch on Wednesday at Nationals Park and didn't experience any problems following the simulated game. Continue to Article
