The Detroit Tigers extended the contract of Al Avila, the executive vice president of baseball operations and general manager who is overseeing the rebuilding of the organization. The Detroit Tigers placed outfielder JaCoby Jones on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a lower back strain and recalled outfielder Victor Reyes from Triple-A Toledo. Jones left the first game of Wednesday's day-night doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox in the fifth inning with back spasms.
