Pete Alonso of the New York Mets smacked his 26th homer on Saturday to set a record for most homers by a National League rookie prior to the All-Star break. Alonso hit a solo blast in the first inning off Chicago Cubs left-hander Jose Quintana to erase the mark of 25 set in 2017 by Cody Bellinger of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Buehler pumped his fist into his glove — nothing too cocky for this soft-spoken Kentuckian — and walked off the mound with no expression on his face while the crowd erupted.
