Chi White Sox
Giolito pitched into the seventh inning for his ninth straight win, Eloy Jimenez hit two three-run homers and Chicago pounded the New York Yankees 10-2 on Friday night. Giolito (10-1) gave up a solo homer to Luke Voit in the first, then shut down New York to win his eighth consecutive start. The right-hander gave up one run and four hits in his 11th straight outing without a loss since Seattle beat him on April 6. Continue to Article

Chi White Sox
Certainly with every Giolito start and every Jimenez home run, things look better and better for 2020, when the franchise's contention window could start to open. Guaranteed Rate Field was rocking Friday night - literally, with Rock N Roll Night in full swing - with 31,000-plus in the stands and more fans expected over the series' final two days. Then comes next week's two-game trip north on Lake Shore Drive for the first half of this year's Crosstown series. Continue to Article

Chi White Sox
Like everything with the White Sox in 2019, the trade deadline is going to be different. This team might not be threatening for a spot in the postseason come September, but they look like the second best club in an AL Central that has just one really good team, not to mention that the record will look much different than it did during the first two seasons of Rick Hahn's rebuilding effort. Likewise, there has been an abundance of really positive signs for the future of this team: Lucas Giolito's dominance, Tim Anderson's offensive success, Yoan Moncada's bounce back, James McCann's emergence, Eloy Jimenez's recent displays of power and the continued development of guys like Dylan Cease, Luis Robert and Nick Madrigal in the minor leagues. The New York Yankees placed first baseman/designated hitter Kendrys Morales on the 10-day injured list Thursday because of a strained left calf and added two players to the active roster. With left-hander Stephen Tarpley sent to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday night, the Yankees recalled outfielder Mike Tauchman and left-hander Nestor Cortes Jr. from Triple-A in advance of Thursday's game against the Chicago White Sox. Morales, 35, who was acquired from the Oakland A's on May 14, is batting .194 with two home runs and 12 RBIs this season. Continue to Article

Chi White Sox
If the 462-foot home run that finally touched down on the stairs leading up to the Fan Deck in center field ends up being the moment when Eloy Jimenez flipped the switch and turned into one of Major League Baseball's great hitters, that will be terrific news for the White Sox and the planned opening of their contention window. In all likelihood, it will be a much more gradual process, Jimenez's elevation from rookie trying to figure out the big leagues to the superstar in the making White Sox fans have been drooling over since he was acquired in the Jose Quintana trade two summers ago. Jimenez, of course, still has the projection of being one of the greats, even if the first two and a half months of his major league career haven't been the Kool-Aid Man crash through the wall that some expected.
