The 29-year-old right-hander was always considered the most likely player to accept his qualifying offer, as it seemed unlikely that he'd receive an offer close in terms of average annual value from another club; especially with draft-pick compensation tied to him and the plethora of elite options on the market this offseason. He recorded a pristine 3.51 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 178/53 K/BB ratio across 30 starts (159 innings) this past season. Less than a week after his mother died, Shildt was honored for piloting the St. Louis Cardinals back into the playoffs, narrowly beating Craig Counsell of the Milwaukee Brewers to win NL Manager of the Year. The Astros won the World Series that year — two sources told The Athletic that Houston used the system into the playoffs while another source said the system ended before the postseason. Fans often bring up Michael Jordan's baseball statistics as a way of mocking him. In 1993 at the peak of his powers as the greatest NBA player of his time (and, perhaps, of all-time), Jordan retired and signed with the Chicago White Sox organization. Placed in Double-A Birmingham, Jordan batted .202 with three homers, 51 RBIs, 30 steals (in 48 attempts) and a .556 OPS. Continue to Article

Cavan Biggio and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. were among the lone bright spots for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2019 and the league certainly took notice. Biggio, who was called up from Triple-A on May 24, finished fifth in American League Rookie of the Year voting. Guerrero Jr. entered the 2019 season as baseball's unanimously highest-touted prospect and showed flashes of brilliance throughout his debut campaign. Continue to Article
