With Justin Smoak a free agent and Rowdy Tellez is coming off a rookie season that isn't particularly encouraging, it's clear that first base is a major hole for the Toronto Blue Jays. Free agency is a valid route, but so too is the trade market where there are some interesting bats floating around who could be a major upgrade for the Blue Jays' lineup. If the All-Star slugger is selected the American League's Most Valuable Player when voting results are announced Thursday, the Astros will become the first team to have an MVP, Cy Young Award winner and Rookie of the Year in the same season. Justin Verlander took Cy Young honors, and Yordan Álvarez was a unanimous pick as the AL's top rookie. Continue to Article

As long as Rowdy Tellez is the Toronto Blue Jays' primary option at first base, you can be certain they'll be looking for an upgrade. It's not impossible to imagine the big 24-year-old becoming an above-average hitter considering his raw power, but his plate discipline issue is a huge mountain to climb. It's safer to assume help will have to come from outside the organization, and there's a good chance that means free agency. Continue to Article
