The Seattle Mariners have made a trio of promotions to fill out the major league coaching staff for next season. Manager Scott Servais announced Thursday that Pete Woodworth would be the new pitching coach, Carson Vitale will be the field coordinator and Jarret DeHart will be the assistant hitting coach. The Seattle Mariners have declined Wade LeBlanc's $5.5 million option for the 2020 season, and the left-hander will become a free agent. LeBlanc was a starter for part of last season before being moved to the bullpen as the Mariners opted to give some of its younger prospects a chance in the rotation. Nelson Cruz's $12 million option for next season has been exercised by the Minnesota Twins. Cruz was 2 for 10 with a solo home run as the Twins were swept by the New York Yankees in the AL Division Series, and the Twins said after that series they planned to exercise the option. Because he has those two secondary offerings in his back pocket, Bass has traditionally been able to induce relatively neutral platoon splits. Although Bass doesn't look like he'll be an impact arm for the Blue Jays, he's projects to make just $1.7 million in arbitration and could provide a baseline of competence to a group riddled with question marks.
