Before the 2016 season the Arizona Diamondbacks radically altered their uniforms. The three most radical aspects of the uniform design, as we highlighted at the time, were (1) the blood-red markings around the ankles of the pants, which looked like, well, blood; (2) the dark gray — very dark gray — road uniforms; and (3) the little diamond pattern — sort of a snakeskin pattern — around the shoulders of the jersey. Major League Baseball will move one step closer to robot umpires in 2020 with the implementation of automated strike zones at some minor league ballparks, marking an expansion of its efforts to incorporate technology into a practice that has remained largely unchanged for decades. The program will build on trial runs MLB conducted in its offseason Arizona Fall League and the independent Atlantic League in 2019, where the league tested TrackMan radar tracking technology to call balls and strikes during in-game play. Boston Red Sox slugger J.D. Martinez decided Monday not to opt out of his contract that has three years and $62.5 million remaining, agent Scott Boras told The Boston Globe. "J.D. has advised me that his decision is about assuring that he plays for a competitive team and wanting to continue to play in a place where he knows that he can be highly productive," Boras told The Boston Globe.
