During the second period of the Montreal Canadiens' 5-2 victory over the Washington Capitals on Friday, Alexander Ovechkin laid a monstrous hit on Habs forward Jonathan Drouin. Drouin did leave the game after the collision but returned to finish the contest. After the match was over, Ovechkin was asked about the thunderous check, saying that there was nothing wrong with it. Tomas Tatar had a goal with three assists and Phillip Danault recorded one with two helpers as the visiting Montreal Canadiens used a four-goal second period to win their third straight, 5-2, and end the Washington Capitals' 13-game point streak on Friday night. Carey Price made 26 saves as Montreal outshot the hosts 40-28. Continue to Article

Alex Iafallo was the overtime hero as the host Los Angeles Kings tied the game late in regulation and then claimed victory 23 seconds into the extra period for a 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings Thursday night. On the winning goal, Drew Doughty's shot went off the glass but rebounded to Iafallo at the doorstep and he had a tap-in tally. Jonathan Quick made 19 saves for the Kings, who have won two straight games. Continue to Article

Ilya Kovalchuk's days with the Los Angeles Kings appear to be numbered, but the 36-year-old isn't altering his approach as he remains the subject of rampant speculation. Kovalchuk was a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game against the Minnesota Wild and is widely expected to be held out Thursday versus the Detroit Red Wings. It was reported Wednesday that the Kings and Kovalchuk are finalizing his release but the 36-year-old insists he's not paying attention to the headlines. Continue to Article
