With the Bruins readying for back-to-back games against the Penguins and Canadiens over the next few days, they aren't expecting forward David Backes to play in either of the big Eastern Conference tilts. Backes suffered a suspected concussion that's being called an "upper body injury" after a scary head-to-head collision with Scott Sabourin during Saturday night's Boston win over the Ottawa Senators. Sabourin had moved in on Backes near the sideboards for what appeared to be a standard, clean hit. Continue to Article

Ottawa Senators rookie forward Scott Sabourin was taken off the ice on a stretcher after a collision with Bruins forward David Backes during the first period of Saturday's game in Boston. Sabourin was injured after administering a check on Backes near the boards at 3:05 of the first period. The players' helmets collided and Sabourin appeared to be unconscious before his head hit the ice. Continue to Article

After moving from the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Ottawa Senators in the offseason, Connor Brown is an interesting case study for how a player rises to the challenge of more demanding usage. Last season, Brown often plied his trade on the fourth line with the Maple Leafs, juicing his ice time slightly with a heavy helping of penalty killing work, but still averaging just 13:48 a night. He was a favourite of coach Mike Babcock, and while he was considered a guy who was overqualified for the part he had to play, there was no need to force him up the lineup. Continue to Article
