Adam Wainwright decided to go to the tape. The St. Louis right-hander studied a few of his past performances in an effort to regain some of the aggression from earlier in his career. Rhys Hoskins homered twice and the visiting Philadelphia Phillies beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-1 in the opener of the four-game series on Monday afternoon. Hoskins hit a two-run homer in the third and a solo shot in the eighth for Philadelphia, which came into Monday 2 1/2 games behind the Chicago Cubs for the second wild card in the National League. Anthony Rizzo ended the Chicago Cubs' 22-inning scoreless drought with a one-out single in the seventh inning, while Kyle Schwarber added a bases-loaded triple, in a 5-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Monday afternoon in the opener of a two-game interleague series. Right-hander Kyle Hendricks combined with three relievers on a four-hitter, allowing the Cubs to end a two-game losing streak, while defeating the Mariners for a third consecutive time this season. After stranding six baserunners in scoring position in the first five innings and trailing 1-0 entering the seventh, the Cubs finally broke through against the Seattle bullpen after reliever Matt Wisler (1-1) walked Jason Heyward and Kris Bryant to put two on with one out.
