The Philadelphia Phillies will continue to use right-hander Jake Arrieta despite a bone spur in his right arm, manager Gabe Kapler said Wednesday. The Phillies' medical staff will continue to evaluate Arrieta, Kapler said in a local radio interview on SportsRadio 94WIP, and monitor his long-term health. New York Mets rookie Pete Alonso nearly doubled his 2019 salary with his victory in the Home Run Derby on Monday night, but the 24-year-old slugger has charitable plans for a portion of his windfall. Alonso earned a $1 million bonus by outslugging fellow rookie phenom Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the annual power showcase. Of that total, Alonso has pledged 5 percent to the Wounded Warriors Project, which aids military veterans, and 5 percent to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation, which raises money for families of first responders. The New York Mets have started trade conversations with the Boston Red Sox revolving around right-hander Zack Wheeler, the New York Post reported Monday. According to the report, the two teams are very early in discussions, but the Mets are also talking with other teams about the right-handed pitcher. Yuli Gurriel ran his hitting streak to 11 games with a game-tying grand slam, and George Springer delivered a walk-off hit in the 10th inning as the host Houston Astros claimed a wild 11-10 victory Sunday over the Los Angeles Angels in the rubber match of a three-game series at Minute Maid Park. The Astros, who rallied from a 7-2 deficit in the fifth to tie the game at 8-8 on Gurriel's slam in the sixth, were forced to rally again in the eighth after Angels center fielder Mike Trout delivered his second home run of the game, a two-run shot, in the top of that frame to make it 10-8.
