Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner left Saturday night's home start against the St. Louis Cardinals after two innings because of a first-inning line drive that deflected off his pitching elbow in the first inning. After being allowed to hit for himself in a 1-1 game in the second, Bumgarner was removed from the contest as he was warming up for the third inning, with obvious swelling at the point of impact. Bumgarner, the 2014 World Series MVP and a two-time 18-game winner for the Giants, is in the final year of his eight-year, $58 million contract and is widely believed to be available at the July 31 trade deadline. Jose Martinez hit the sixth pitch of the game an estimated 433 feet for a home run, and Paul Goldschmidt went ever farther with a Drew Pomeranz offering five pitches later for a two-run shot, sending the St. Louis Cardinals to a 9-4 victory over the host San Francisco Giants on Friday. On March 1, San Francisco Giants CEO Baer was caught on video having a loud, public argument with his wife during which he tried to rip a cell phone out of her hands, which caused her to tumble off of her chair and to the ground as she screamed “help me! After initially dismissing and diminishing the incident, Baer released a statement apologizing to his wife, children and the Giants organization and saying he would “do whatever it takes to make sure that I never behave in such an inappropriate manner again. San Francisco Giants President and CEO Larry Baer is set to return to work Tuesday following a suspension and nearly four-month absence after a video showed him in a physical altercation with his wife. The Giants said Saturday that Baer attended a ''regular counseling program and has recommitted himself to the organization.'' Baer was not paid during his suspension in which Commissioner Rob Manfred stipulated he have no involvement with the team. Board member Rob Dean handled Baer's duties during his time away.
