Golden State and LA Clippers Thread

Golden State
Both teams have reason for optimism when the Western Conference first-round playoff series between the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers moves to L.A. for Game 3 on Thursday night. The eighth-seeded Clippers will be riding the momentum of the greatest comeback in their history and biggest ever in an NBA playoff game as they try to duplicate what they did in 2014 -- beat Golden State in a best-of-7 after losing the first game. The top-seeded Warriors, meanwhile, have their in-state rivals right where they want them -- in Los Angeles, where Golden State has won eight of the last nine meetings. Continue to Article

Golden State Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins won't need surgery to repair a torn left quadriceps, but he's likely out for the rest of the postseason, head coach Steve Kerr told reporters Wednesday. "Probably looking at a couple months' recovery, so it's unlikely," Kerr said. Cousins was injured while trying to run down a loose ball 3 1/2 minutes into Monday's 135-131 loss to the Clippers, in which Golden State blew a 31-point lead. Continue to Article

Kevin Durant, Steve Kerr at odds over how much Warriors star should shoot originally appeared on nbcsportsbayarea.com OAKLAND – With teammates and coaches urging him to be more assertive with his shot, Kevin Durant says he knows what the Warriors need from him and how best to deliver it, regardless of the "gimmicky" defense of the Clippers. The gimmick Los Angeles coach Doc Rivers threw at Durant in Games 1 and 2 is mostly in the form of relentlessly pesky guard Patrick Beverley. "I'm not going get in the way of the game because I want to have a little back-and-forth with Patrick Beverley," Durant said after practice Wednesday. Continue to Article

LA Clippers
While they aren't closing the door completely, the Golden State Warriors are moving on from DeMarcus Cousins after he suffered what was likely a season-ending injury on Monday night. Cousins injured his left leg early in the first quarter of the Warriors 132-131 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 2 of their opening round playoff series and limped off the floor into the locker room. Warriors coach Steve Kerr confirmed on Wednesday that his center will not need surgery, but he isn't expecting Cousins to be back in the lineup this postseason. Continue to Article

Golden State
You might have already heard this, but just in case news of the biggest comeback in NBA playoffs history didn't reach you: the Golden State Warriors had a rough night on Monday. The overwhelming favorites to win a third straight NBA championship held a 31-point lead at on point against a Clippers team that was literally given 100-to-1 to beat them in the first round, and then the Warriors lost 135-131 to even the series at 1-1. At the center of that humiliating loss was Kevin Durant's struggles against the Clippers defense and one Patrick Beverley, who achieved minor viral fame by forcing last year's Finals MVP to cough up nine turnovers and foul out.
