Milwaukee Brewers slugger Christian Yelich became only the sixth player in Major League Baseball history to smash a home run in his team's first four games of the season on Sunday. The 27-year-old US outfielder, last year's National League Most Valuable player, blasted a fastball from St. Louis right-hander Michael Wacha over the right-field wall in the first inning to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead. The other major leaguers to open the season with four homers in as many games were Willie Mays for San Francisco in 1971, Mark McGwire for St. Louis in 1998, Nelson Cruz for Texas in 2011, Chris Davis for Baltimore in 2013 and Trevor Story for Colorado in 2016. Christian Yelich became the first MVP to homer in the first three games of the following season, Josh Hader closed things out with an immaculate inning and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 on Saturday night. Travis Shaw and Mike Moustakas also homered off Cardinals starter Dakota Hudson, and Brandon Woodruff (1-0) struck out five while pitching five innings of two-run ball. Yelich made a sliding catch in right field in the top of the first inning, then took Hudson deep for a solo shot in his first at-bat. Continue to Article

Travis Shaw and Mike Moustakas also homered for Milwaukee, which has clubbed eight home runs in its first three contests. Paul Goldschmidt was hoping to swing for baseball history when Brewers manager Craig Counsell took the bat out of his hands. Goldschmidt hit three home runs and then was intentionally walked in the ninth inning, leaving him one shy of the big league record in St. Louis' 9-5 victory over Milwaukee on Friday night. Cardinals fans in enemy territory cheered as Goldschmidt approached the plate, and booed even louder when Counsell sent Goldschmidt to first. Continue to Article

Cain soared above the wall to rob Jose Martinez of a tying home run for the final out, lifting Christian Yelich and the Milwaukee Brewers over the St. Louis Cardinals 5-4 on Thursday. With at least one Cardinals player in the bullpen already raising his arms to celebrate, Cain pulled back the pinch-hit drive by Martinez in right-center. A fired-up Cain and Yelich then started celebrating an opening day that looked a lot like Milwaukee's run to the NL Championship Series last October. Continue to Article
