NY Mets
The Mets lost to the Nationals in brutal fashion on Monday night, and their bats went mostly silent during Tuesday night's loss. A loss on Wednesday night would have meant a three-game sweep, and the continuation of the sky-is-falling-the-Mets-aren't-for-real narrative that was being pushed by some during the prior 48 hours. Instead, the Mets erupted for nine runs in the eighth inning -- turning a two-run deficit in to a seven-run lead. It was punctuated by a grand slam off the bat of Yoenis Cespedes, who paused for effect before rounding the bases. The Mets are 13-4 instead of 12-5. They're 5.0 games up on the Nats instead of 3.0. So, how important was Wednesday night's win? "It's just huge Continue to Article

A look at what's happening around the majors today: SLUMPING STANTON Giancarlo Stanton looks to make an impact in pinstripes when New York opens a series against Toronto at Yankee Stadium. Stanton is 3 for 35 (.086) with 20 strikeouts in the Bronx this season, and he has been regularly booed by the home fans. Manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday he'd consider sliding Stanton slightly down in the batting order to get the 2017 NL MVP rolling. NOT AGAIN The Braves are hoping for good news on star slugger Freddie Freeman a day after a scary — and all-too-familiar looking — hit-by-pitch. Phillies lefty Holby Milner hit Freeman's left wrist with a fastball in nearly the same spot where Freeman had a fracture Continue to Article

Atlanta
The sight of Freddie Freeman being hit by a pitch near the spot where his wrist was fractured last season left the Atlanta Braves revisiting bad memories they hope won't be repeated. It was enough to make it difficult for Atlanta to celebrate its fourth straight home series win. Ryan Flaherty homered and drove in four runs, Brandon McCarthy outpitched Vince Velasquez and the Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3 on Wednesday night despite losing Freeman in the eighth inning. Atlanta
Last May, Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman got off to a scorching start. Then he suffered a broken wrist after getting hit by a pitch that cost him 10 weeks of his season. Wednesday night, Freeman took a 90-mph fastball on almost the exact same spot on his left wrist from Philadelphia Phillies reliever Hoby Milner. Continue to Article

Atlanta
Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman left Wednesday night's 7-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies after being hit in the left wrist with a pitch. Freeman was struck by a Hoby Milner 90 mph pitch with the Braves holding a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. Before trainers could even reach the field, Freeman began slowly walking toward the Atlanta dugout, then he dropped his bat, removed his helmet and went down the tunnel. Freeman missed roughly 1? months last season after being hit by a pitch on the same wrist. Continue to Article
