In 2014, Mirai Nagasu moved from her native California to Colorado Springs, to train with the elite Broadmoor Skating Club near the U.S. Olympic Training Center. Nagasu had finished fourth at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010, but despite finishing third at the U.S. Championships in 2014, was passed over by U.S. Figure Skating and sat out the Sochi Games. Nathan MacKinnon declared himself fit on Saturday. MacKinnon has missed eight games with an upper-body injury, going down at a time when the Avalanche were thriving off his impressive play. The former No. 1 pick in the NHL Draft left second in NHL scoring with 61 points, although he’s fallen a bit behind now, sitting in 16th spot. Continue to Article

Winnipeg Jets fans wondering how long it would take No. 1 center Mark Scheifele to regain his form after missing six weeks with a shoulder injury were provided their answer on Tuesday night. After notching an assist in a 3-1 loss to the New York Rangers on Sunday afternoon in his second game back, Scheifele almost single-handedly kept the Jets from registering their first three-game losing streak of the season, scoring a goal and adding two assists -- including on the overtime winner by defenseman Tyler Myers -- in a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Washington Capitals. Sitting in second place in the Central Division with 75 points, the Jets are hoping to build on the three-point cushion (not to mention the two games in hand) that they enjoy on the St. Louis Blues. Carl Soderberg and Alexander Kerfoot scored, and Semyon Varlamov stopped all 44 shots he faced as the Colorado Avalanche beat the Montreal Canadiens 2-0 on Wednesday night in Denver to equal a franchise record with a 10th consecutive home-ice victory. Colorado's last loss at the Pepsi Center was Dec. 27. The last time the organization won 10 straight home games was when the team played in Quebec City during the 1994-95 campaign.
