Giroux had carved out quite the nice niche as a top centerman in the NHL as a point-per-game player who could play at both ends of the ice and win a pile of faceoffs. The move, however, may be head coach Dave Hakstol’s best piece of genius thus far, and not just because Giroux has rekindled the form he exhibited a few years ago, but because of what he’s been able to do to help out Sean Couturier and the Flyers’ fearsome top line as a whole. Giroux’s resurgence as a top player and his seamless adaptation to his new digs on the left side with Couturier has done wonders for the latter. Continue to Article

Coming into the Flyers' game with the Red Wings, Hagg had attempted 79 shots - 37 of those were saved and the other 42 hit the opponent's body or just missed everything altogether. "It's fun, especially with a win," Hagg said following the Flyers' 4-3 victory over the Red Wings (see observations). 1) The standout season for Anton Khudobin continues. A team playing on the second night of back-to-backs many times needs a little help in order to get over the hump with a victory and Khudobin provided all of the help the tired B's skaters would need when he stopped 17 shots in the first period. Khudobin was just as strong later on in the game in stuffing Evander Kane on a nasty drive to the net and never faltered as the Bruins got stronger as the game wore on. Continue to Article

NEW YORK (AP) -- Detroit Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader has been fined $5,000 by the NHL for spearing New York Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield in Tuesday night's game.
The league's department of player safety handed down the fine Wednesday.
