The latest round of Sunday splash reports creates the impression that the Browns actually dodged a bullet by not trading for Bengals quarterback A.J. McCarron. ESPN reports, with classic game-day morning urgency, that McCarron has filed a grievance against the Bengals over the question of whether he becomes a free agent in March 2018 or March 2019. “Cincinnati Bengals quarterback AJ McCarron, at the center of headlines this past week, soon will be the center of headlines again,” Adam Schefter declares. According to Schefter, the Bengals notified the league of the proposed trade at 3:55 p.m. ET, and the Browns notified the league shortly after 4 p.m. ET. Because the Browns were late, the league denied the trade. Cleveland protested with the league asking that the trade be approved. The NFL rejected the Browns' protest. The proposed compensation for McCarron would have been a second- and third-round pick in 2018, a source confirmed to Schefter. The Cincinnati Enquirer first reported the compensation. McCarron has been the subject Continue to Article

Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals and Browns agreed to a trade that would send quarterback A.J. McCarron to Cleveland and the Bengals let the league know shortly before the 4 p.m. ET deadline, but the Browns didn’t and the league wouldn’t let the trade go through once they got around to it. McCarron had heard from his agent that a deal was happening before getting word of the complication that left him in Cincinnati. McCarron shared his reaction to the rollercoaster when he met with the media on Wednesday and said he was thankful to Bengals owner Mike Brown for being willing to send him somewhere he would play.
