Pittsburgh Penguins
Derek Pouliot has a chance Saturday to show the Pittsburgh Penguins what they are missing out on. Pouliot, now with the Vancouver Canucks (6-3-3), will play his first game against his former team as Sidney Crosby and the rest of the Penguins (9-4-0) make a rare visit to Rogers Arena. Pouliot, 22, is getting playing time that he did not receive with the Penguins -- despite being chosen eighth overall by Pittsburgh in the 2012 National Hockey League entry draft. Continue to Article

Vancouver Canucks
A trade prior to the start of the season brought Derrick Pouliot to Vancouver. An injury to the club’s top blue liner, Alex Edler, presented a chance for the former Penguins prospect to get into the Canucks lineup. Blake Wheeler scored a hat trick in less than five minutes of the first period and the Winnipeg Jets broke out to a five-goal lead in the first 20 minutes to hand the Pittsburgh Penguins a 7-1 defeat Sunday. The Penguins goaltender immediately looked up to the rafters in disbelief and Pittsburgh quickly tabbed rookie Casey DeSmith to make his NHL debut in relief. Continue to Article

Pittsburgh Penguins
A blowout win over the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions was more important to Blake Wheeler than his own outstanding performance. Wheeler scored three of Winnipeg's five first-period goals and added an assist in the third as the Jets routed the Pittsburgh Penguins 7-1 on Sunday night. Brendan Lemieux scored his first career goal for Winnipeg on a slap shot from the point at 12:20 of the third. Continue to Article

Pittsburgh Penguins
Sunday night’s brutal 7-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets attached a flashing, over-sized arrow to a trend for the Pittsburgh Penguins so far this season: they’ve been awful closing out back-to-back sets. As defending champions, the Penguins have accrued more mileage than any other NHL team over the last two seasons. The Penguins are still hanging in there with a 7-5-1 record, yet there are troubling signs from shoddy backup goaltending, a goal differential that’s now fallen to -14, and these often-lousy efforts in the second game of back-to-back sets.
