Baltimore Orioles
About once a month, the phrase “they are who we thought they were” pops up in relation to something in sports. That phrase from Dennis Green sums up a lot when it comes to the world of sports and it’s one of the simplest yet greatest statements out there. And for the 2017 Baltimore Orioles, it might just be the perfect explanation of the journey the team has taken. Despite the hot start in April, there was a general agreed-upon idea that this team wasn’t going to compete for the role of American League favorite. It was the Orioles’ roster after all — and despite the talent that was certainly performing, certain aspects simply couldn’t have been projected to maintain the pace. As the season rolled Continue to Article

Adrian Walker of the Boston Globe reports that the Boston Red Sox will air an anti-racism public service announcement at Fenway Park before their game on September 28. This comes in the wake of a group of protesters hanging an anti-racism banner in Fenway Park last week which, in turn came a few months after Adam Jones, like many visiting players of color before him, claimed that racial epithets were hurled at him by fans in the Fenway bleachers. The Dodgers can clinch their fifth straight NL West title with a victory in Philadelphia and an Arizona loss at San Diego. Left-hander Alex Wood (15-3, 2.69) tries to stop the slide when he pitches against Jake Thompson (2-2, 4.46) and the last-place Phillies, who need three wins to avoid a 100-loss season. With the playoffs right around the corner, the World Series champion Cubs are riding their longest winning streak of the season. Continue to Article

It was another stellar night at the plate for Hoskins, a 24-year-old first baseman. Batting with one out in the seventh inning after Odubel Herrera drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 2-2, Hoskins worked a 10-pitch at-bat against Dodgers reliever Pedro Baez (3-6) before shooting a 97 mph fastball through the gap in left-center. Cubs 2, Rays 1 Mike Montgomery took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, and Chicago manager Joe Maddon won in his return to Tropicana Field as the Cubs claimed their seventh straight victory, holding the Tampa Bay Rays to one hit in a 2-1 win Tuesday. Boston Red Sox
BALTIMORE — Dustin Pedroia is expected to return to the Red Sox lineup on Wednesday, manager John Farrell said. Not a bad turnaround time for someone who, on Monday, was holding his jersey to his face as he was bleeding. Pedroia hit a foul ball that bounced off the plate and into his nose on Monday night. He did not go for further testing on Tuesday, which was a positive sign. A CAT scan would have been needed to see the full extent of the damage. “He’s sore,” Farrell said. “I would think in an emergency only would we even consider putting him in a game [Tuesday]. But felt like after talking with him here and after he got checked out, felt like it was best to just hold him out a day. I would Continue to Article
