New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds Thread

New York Mets
Matt Harvey will throw a bullpen session today in Cincinnati in advance of returning from the disabled list on Friday to start against the Astros. Harvey, who hasn't pitched in the majors since June 14, will ill likely get four-to-five big league starts between now and the end of this season. To say each one of them will be huge for him -- as well as Sandy Alderson -- would be an understatement.  I firmly believe Harvey will be in the starting rotation next season. I also expect he'll do everything in his power this winter and next spring to make 32 dominant starts next summer in advance of becoming a free agent for the first time in his career. Of course, Harvey's name will come up in trade Continue to Article

Mets 3B David Wright, who terminated his rehab assignment on Monday, is not yet considering retirement, a source told Mike Puma of the NY Post. Manager Terry Collins believes that Wright was dealing with discomfort before playing in rehab games, according to Puma. Wright is scheduled to be examined in New York later this week. He played three games for High-A St. Lucie in a rehab stint last week as he looked to return from a shoulder impingement that has kept him out since spring training. "I continued to have shoulder pain," Wright said in a statement. "I decided to go to the doctor and get it checked out. Will make any decisions going forward after my appointment." Wright, who is on the 60-day Continue to Article

As I said a few weeks ago, it's my understanding that Sandy Alderson and Jeff Wilpon had already planned to sit down with David Wright to discuss their future together. The rumored meeting must feel extra important this morning, 12 hours after Wright terminated his rehab assignment to again have his shoulder examined. "I continued to have shoulder pain," Wright said in a statement late Monday. "I decided to go to the doctor and get it checked out. Will make any decisions going forward after my appointment." The decision to retire or keep trying to play belongs only to Wright, who is under contract for three more seasons. That said, no one more than David knows that despite averaging 156 games Continue to Article

The aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, which has caused catastrophic flooding in and around Houston, resulted in highway closures, and caused six deaths, may force this weekend's Mets vs. Astros series from Houston to Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay, the Astros said Monday. Citi Field has also been under consideration as an alternate site, reported Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.   The Mets and Astros are scheduled to play Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The Astros' series with the Rangers from Tuesday through Thursday has already been moved to Tropicana Field. "The safety of our fans, players and staff remain our main priority," Astros President of Business Operations Reid Ryan said. "We are extremely Continue to Article
