WASHINGTON -- Bryce Harper and the Washington Nationals have reached a $21,625,000 deal for the 2018 season, a contact that covers the slugging outfielder through his last year before he can become a free agent. While no long-term agreement is in place, the deal Saturday shows the sides are talking beyond the time the Nationals are assured of having the 24-year-old Harper in their lineup. The four-time All-Star was the unanimous NL MVP in 2015. Harper would've been eligible for salary arbitration next year. Harper is making $13.63 million this season. It was tied at 4-4 after eight and a half in the nations capital, but the Washington Nationals walked off again, beating the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-4 on a Bryce Harper home run. Tanner Roark wasnt particularly sharp tonight in the nations capital, in his third start of the season against the Philadelphia Phillies. Roark gave up six hits and four earned runs on 110 pitches in just 4 23 innings pitched, but his Washington Nationals teammates picked him up, rallying to tie things up at 4-4 in the fifth, before going on to win the series opener in D.C., 6-4.
