Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin played through hamstring and knee injuries that hampered him in the playoffs. Ovechkin said he felt something in his hamstring late in Game 3 of the second-round series against the Pittsburgh Penguins and needed injections to numb the pain the rest of the way. After the Washington Capitals’ Game 7 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins, there was speculation that Alex Ovechkin might join Team Russia at the IIHF World Championships, as is tradition. Was there a physical reason he was so underwhelming in big spots against the Penguins, including a scoreless Game 7 that saw him on the ice for both Pittsburgh goals in a 2-0 loss?
