It’s probably not one that baseball fans circled on their calendars at the start of the 2017 MLB season, but the upcoming four-game set between the New York Yankees and Houston Astros is the year’s most intriguing series, thus far. Houston sits atop the AL West with an MLB-high 23 wins, and New York has MLB’s best winning percentage as they narrowly lead the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East. The ugly treatment of athletes from fans became a national topic recently when Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones said he was taunted with racist slurs while playing the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. While other professional athletes have come forward to say they have experienced similar taunts in Boston and elsewhere, Jeremy Lin of the Brooklyn Nets says his personal experience was much worse in college. Lin was recently a guest on teammate Randy Foye's podcast, when he was asked about playing college basketball at Harvard and whether he was ever on the receiving end of racist taunts. You may have heard, but Adam Eaton tore his ACL on April 28th against the New York Mets. It was a crushing (okay, maybe not crushing, but still pretty bad) blow for the Washington Nationals, who lost a leadoff man they paid dearly for and the spark plug to one of the leagues best offenses. No matter if youre right next to him, watching him at a game in person, or seeing him on TV, its easy to tell that Max Scherzer is a pretty great dude all around. Luckily for the Washington Nationals right-hander, he and his wife, Erica, provide homes for a few lucky pooches.
