Sixteen NBA teams will advance to the 2017 playoffs, each striving to survive and advance in the springtime tournament with hopes (some more realistic than others) of hoisting the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy come mid-June. Karl-Anthony Towns and Ricky Rubio have helped lead the Timberwolves’ second-half surge. The Minnesota Timberwolves were everybody’s preseason pick for a “surprise” playoff run — to the point that it wouldn’t have shocked anyone — before it quickly became apparent we’d jumped on the bandwagon too soon. If the New York Knicks are the NBA's stormiest soap opera, then Latvian talent Kristaps Porzingis is the central love interest, a lone symbol of better days ahead for the franchise. New York's greatest challenge will be in keeping him that way, which could prove an increasingly difficult task as the losses and storylines compound. James Harden is a dominant offensive player and one of the NBA MVP favorites this season. However, the Houston Rockets superstar is not especially known for his athleticism. While Harden is no slouch when it comes to running and leaping, he’s a force because of how he uses space and baits defenders into making mistakes. The quintessential Harden play involves loping strides (and probably some contact), not incredible straight-line speed or a ferocious dunk. Continue to Article
