The first signal that Adam Silver was more enlightened than the average commissioner came just months into his reign when he broke ranks with other sports leagues by calling for the legalization of sports betting. Not only that, the NBA commissioner suggested later, but the league wouldn't mind joining in the profits that nationwide legalized betting might bring. Bold stuff, considering the NBA had for decades been in lockstep with Major League Baseball and the NFL in the belief that sports betting could destroy their empires. Continue to Article

Before the season began, members of the New York Knicks were trying to sell the public on their status as a contender. With Carmelo Anthony, Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah and Kristaps Porzingis on the roster, it was easy to see how they might fostered that idea. It all came to a head last week when team owner James Dolan had former Knicks great Charles Oakley ejected from the stadium by a group of security officers and then banned for life, a punishment that was lifted Tuesday. Charles Oakley is allowed back in Madison Square Garden, though the former New York Knicks star says he wants an apology before he would return. MSG chairman James Dolan banned Oakley last week, two days after the former power forward had an altercation with security guards while attending a game and was arrested.
