Oklahoma went into this season as the overwhelming favorite to win its 10th Big 12 Conference title, and the Sooners very well might still be that with all the talent back from last season's College Football Playoff team. While still a few weeks from starting conference play, the Sooners have little room for error if they want to return to the four-team playoff. Iowa was outgained by Miami University 424 yards to 404 yards, ran 20 fewer plays and its offense had the ball nearly 13 minutes less than the RedHawks in the season opener in the season opener. Iowa remains at home this weekend and hopes to get off to a 2-0 start when it faces in-state rival Iowa State on Saturday night (7:30 p.m., Big Ten Network) before a sellout crowd in another nonconference game. Iowa has signed coach Kirk Ferentz to a six-year contract extension through the 2025 season. Ferentz, who is in his 18th season leading the Hawkeyes, will see his salary jump to $4.5 million per year under the new deal announced Tuesday.
