Chicago Blackhawks
Joel Quenneville lost a lot on Tuesday night. He lost a goal from the scoreboard, as Brandon Mashinter's tally against the San Jose Sharks was overturned after a coach’s challenge, with the referees determining that Chicago Blackhawks forward Dennis Rasmussen interfered with Sharks goalie Martin Jones. And then he lost his cool in the postgame press conference, storming out after declaring about goalie interference standards: "It has gone to a different level. I don't know the rules anymore or something has changed. … I think everybody has an interpretation, what's a good goal, what's a bad goal. But I can't believe it." It was understandable that he was a little miffed, what with it being the second time in three games the Blackhawks had a goal taken down on a coach’s challenge. So Quenneville spoke with the NHL this week, airing some grievances. According to CSN Chicago, they agreed with the Blackhawks coach that it wasn’t the right call: “I just think, we had a couple of occurrences in a short amount of time so obviously a little frustration there,” Quenneville said of his brief presser. “But we did speak to the league and got some [clarification] on the play. I just think there’s education across the board and you have a lot of people in the middle of the process making the decisions. As long as we’re getting right is what we’re looking for.” Asked if the league agreed with the no-goal decision, Quenneville said, “Did they agree with the call? No.” Again, this is just how it’s going to be. Different refs, different standards. The NHL isn’t likely to take goalie interference reviews out of the hands of its on-ice officials. They seem them as subjective, and they aren’t willing to completely eliminate them from the coach’s challenge process if, in fact, offside calls are kicked to the War Room. The best we can hope is that through continued education and training, the refs can get in the same book, if not on the same page, on what constitutes goalie interference.  -- Greg Wyshynski  is a writer for Yahoo Sports. Chicago Blackhawks
Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville abruptly ended his press conference Tuesday evening after the Blackhawks lost 2-0 to the San Jose Sharks.  The reason had to do with an overturned goal by the Blackhawks at 17:23 of the first period. The Sharks challenged the score by Brandon Mashinter, saying Dennis Rasmussen interfered with netminder Martin Jones. It was deemed he did. Quenneville seemed so upset in his postgame news conference that he walked out after a few brief comments. The Sharks led 1-0 until the last two minutes when Joe Thornton scored an empty netter.   Above is the video of Quenneville, who seemed to be quite calm on the exterior after the first question before walking out.  “It’s gotten to a different level — I don’t know the rules anymore, or something’s changed,” Quenneville said. “I played a lot of hockey. I don’t know. I think everybody has an interpretation, what’s a good goal and what’s a bad goal. But I can’t believe it.” The league saw it the play differently. After reviewing all available replays and consulting with NHL Hockey Operations staff, the Referee determined that Chicago's Dennis Rasmussen interfered with Jones before the puck crossed the goal line . According to Rule 78.7, " The standard for overturning the call in the event of a 'GOAL' call on the ice is that the Referee, after reviewing any and all available replays and consulting with the Toronto Video Room, determines that the goal should have been disallowed due to 'Interference on the Goalkeeper,' as described in Rules 69.1 and 69.3." The Chicago Sun-Times pointed out that this was the third Chicago goal that was overturned in less than a month. Here is Quenneville going 'bananas' after a goal was disallowed against the Arizona Coyotes last week. CSN Chicago noted the last time Quenneville was this visibly upset by a referees call was in 2011 after Raffi Torres hit Marian Hossa, which led to a big suspension for Torres. “The league wants to get more goals, but it seems like the rule is doing a good job of taking good goals away,” Hossa told reporters. “Last year, definitely, that would be a goal. No questions asked.” MORE FROM YAHOO HOCKEY - - - - - - - Josh Cooper is an editor for Puck Daddy on Yahoo Sports. Have a tip? Email him at puckdaddyblog@yahoo.com or follow him on Twitter! Chicago Blackhawks
The NHL's hard salary cap has forced plenty of turnover on the Chicago Blackhawks' roster since they won the 2009-10 Stanley Cup, and this past offseason was no different. Artem Anisimov and rookie Artemi Panarin haven't had any trouble fitting into the winning culture. The Western Conference-leading Blackhawks begin a four-game homestand against the San Jose Sharks looking to win an eighth straight at the United Center on Tuesday night. Continue to Article

Chicago Blackhawks
It's been just over a month since the last Winter Classic... SO WHY DON'T WE KNOW WHERE THE NEXT ONE IS GOING TO BE YET?! Speculation is rampant. The Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins are out of the running with the report earlier this week of their Stadium Series game . Others thought the game would be in Toronto; to coincide with the organization and the NHL's centennial celebration. If the report by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch is correct, the St. Louis Blues will host the day after New Year's Day event at Busch Stadium. Who will they play? The Florida Panthers. Okay, not really. It's the Chicago Blackhawks, of course. A year cannot go by without the Blackhawks appearing in an outdoor game. It's in the small print of the CBA. The ink isn't completely dry on the deal yet but it sounds like the residents of Busch, the St. Louis Cardinals, are preparing for a hockey game. From the Post-Dispatch : "The plan is not yet complete, but the league is strongly considering the city to host the "Winter Classic," in which the Blues' opponent could be the Chicago Blackhawks. There is also the option of the team playing in a "Stadium Series" game, but according to sources, the Cardinals are expecting to host a hockey game at Busch on Jan. 2, which is a potential date for next year's Winter Classic." The league is expected to move the date of the event to Monday, January 2 to avoid conflicting with the final day of the NFL's regular season on Sunday, January 1.  We know the TV rating in the US would be obliterated by the NFL if they went head to head. This most likely ensures a night time game in St. Louis. People will return to work after the holidays on Monday and won't be home to watch during the day. While Chicago may be less than enthused to play in another outdoor game, this is exciting for St. Louis Blues fans. They're one of the few major hockey markets to not appear in a stadium game.  - - - - - - - Jen Neale is an editor for Puck Daddy on Yahoo Sports. Have a tip?
