Houston U
SMU's quest for an undefeated season ended a little more than two weeks ago, but coach Larry Brown finally believes his squad is simply playing for itself. The No. 16 Mustangs can build on their most decisive American Athletic Conference victory by remaining undefeated at home Wednesday night against Tulsa. After losing two of three and shooting 40.4 percent in the previous two, SMU (20-2, 9-2) shot 60.3 percent - second-highest this season - in Sunday's 92-58 road rout of lowly South Florida. Pat Birt matched his season high of 27 points and Tulsa beat Houston 77-63 on Sunday. Birt was 10 of 18 from the field, including 5 of 10 on 3-pointers, for the Golden Hurricane (15-8, 7-4 American), who shot 52 percent, 42 percent from the arc, and outrebounded the Cougars 32-23. James Woodard added 15 points as Tulsa won for the seventh time in its last nine games. Continue to Article

Houston trailed by 11 points early in the second half and appeared headed for its second loss to No. 12 SMU this season. Devonta Pollard scored 23 points and Damyean Dotson added 13 as Houston rallied for a 71-68 victory over SMU on Monday night, just the second loss of the season for the Mustangs. Pollard and Dotson keyed a 21-4 run midway through the second half for the Cougars (16-6, 6-4 American), which defeated a ranked team for the first time since beating No. 25 SMU in March 2014. Houston U
SMU coach Larry Brown was hopeful but not optimistic that the game film would contradict his point of view that the Mustangs still have plenty to work on. It's certainly not how he wanted to be feeling heading into a rematch with a Houston team that gave SMU everything it could handle minus its leading scorer two weeks ago. In a matchup between the American Athletic Conference's two highest scoring teams, the 13th-ranked Mustangs aim to avoid to their second straight road loss Monday night. Continue to Article

Memphis U
Nic Moore scored 22 points and No. 13 SMU rebounded from its first loss of the season with an 80-68 victory over Memphis on Saturday night. Freshman guard Shake Milton added 15 points for the Mustangs (19-1, 8-1 AAC), who led for all but 38 seconds back home in Moody Coliseum. While the Mustangs can win their second consecutive American Athletic Conference regular-season title, that is as far as they can go because of NCAA penalties that include a postseason ban this season.
